Now the average speed over a preset distance will be controlled in various locations in Switzerland. First controlled section, the Arisdorf tunnel on the A2 highway between Basel and Lucerne came in testing since the beginning of October. Only in direction of Lucerne, vehicles are recorded at the entrance and exit of the tunnel (about 1750 meters). If the average peed eceeds the limit (which is variable in this tunnel, according to day/night time and traffic density), the fine will be sent to the driver. The second section is between Aigle and Bex-North, on the A9 highway, in direction of the Valais. The test phase will take place at the end of 2010 and the begining of 2011. They encountered some problems, as the installation is still in test phase in autumn 2011. We'll keep you informed as soon as it will be possible. Swiss Traffic announces these new types of speed traps as "Section Speed control". They are placed at the beginning of the section and indicate the lenght of section affected.
